Organic growing. Traditional recipes. Quality products. These are the three basic principles that guide Botanicus. We grow high quality plants and herbs organically. We create our range of products in as traditional a method as we can and have the highest possible standards of production and presentation.
The organic gardens at Botanicus have both decorative and production sections that compliment each other and create harmony. We do not permit commercial fertilizers, chemical sprays or other growth stimulants. The soil is rich and naturally pure.
The Botanicus range has grown into original, inspiring and practical products, all made on ecologically sound principles, using local skills and materials. Botanicus cosmetics contain the highest possible quantity of plant material. The whole range of products can be purchased in Botanicus or franchised shops in the Czech Republic and other countries.
A demonstration of this philosophy is the development of the village of Ostra near Lysa nad Labem, a place where the world of plants is harmoniously woven into the lives of everyone who visits and works with Botanicus.
The vision for the future is to continually improve the products available in Botanicus shops, and also in the Craft Center, which is an important part of company.
Botanicus is unique in that the company is a closed cycle grower - manufacturer – seller within the same company. This cycle is "figuratively" expressed by the three Latin words in the company name: HORTUS (gardens) - APOTHICUS (pharmacy - production) - BOTANICUS (name of shops).
plants, herbs, fruits and vegetables in our own gardens is the basis
for the production of extracts and oils. The extracts are made from
fresh herbs, not dried (as is the case in most cosmetic products of
other companies). The close proximity of the garden and manufacturing
facility provides immediate processing of natural raw materials. All
materials that come from our gardens, are classified as organic.
This certified material we use not only as ingredients for cosmetics but also in Botanicus food products such as marmalade, cordials, chutney, etc. The whole range of our products is produced in small batches to conserve their natural characteristics.
The production of cosmetic products and food takes place in manufacturing facilities that meet strict hygiene standards, with the majority of products being hand made. Modern technology is employed, where necessary, to meet and exceed global standards and requirements but traditional values are at the core of everything we produce and Botanicus cosmetics contain the highest possible quantity of plant material.
Botanicus was established as a company. The name came about through one of the founding partners, Dr Malcolm Robert Stuart, a renowned British botanist with a deep knowledge of herbs and their use in foods and cosmetics. With Dr Stuart’s help, Dana and Jan Hradecky began to rebuild the country estate in Ostra, which was returned to the family at the time of restitution.
In November, HRH Prince Charles, Prince of Wales visited the company while on an official tour of the Czech Republic. He showed great interest in the organic gardens, traditional manufacturing and the ecological cultivation of herbs, fruit and vegetables. He planted two trees, an oak for Britain and a lime for Czech Republic, symbolizing the links between the nations.
In April we opened the First Botanicus Headquarters in the United States. Located in Portland, Oregon we are happy to be the official Botanicus distributor aka Botanicus USA.
2015A limited selection of Botanicus products are now available in the National Czech & Slovak Museum and Library (NCSML).
